I’ve been a dedicated YouTube subscriber and have watched countless videos that show you “easy” and “foolproof” techniques to seamlessly apply fake lashes and, to this day, it takes me 45 minutes, half a tube of glue and 5 eyelash strips to get them semi-adhered to my lash line.
As an avid Latisse user – I swear by this stuff! – I still wasn’t getting the length or volume that I wanted and I didn’t have enough time (or patience) to apply falsies everyday. Eyelash extensions have been a topic on my mind that I’ve gone back and forth on for probably the last year. Other than them looking fabulous and lush around the clock, I mostly only heard about the negatives of having and maintaining extensions.
After talking to some friends who have had lash extensions, I decided to seriously look into it and eventually took the plunge and made an appointment with Laura, a NovaLash specialist who does lashes from her apartment in Chicago – check out her amazing work here. The whole process takes about 2 hours, where you’re laying down with your eyes closed. Going to someone’s house opposed to a salon was super relaxing and made me comfortable right off the bat.
We briefly talked about the look that I wanted to achieve and she got started. I made sure to tell her I wanted something relatively natural with lots of length. From that point, I plugged in my headphones and relaxed for the next hour and a half while she worked her magic. It’s important you keep your eyes closed, but taking a nap is pretty much encouraged.
The normal life for extensions is 2-4 weeks, depending on person. I’ve been completely obsessed with my lashes and I’ve had them for about 5 weeks. I’ve been good about keeping them away from water (I no longer splash water on my face when washing and don’t let direct water hit my lashes in the shower.) My makeup routine has been completely simplified and the convenience of having glam eyes 24/7 is worth EVERY penny.
If you’re on the fence about getting lash extensions and you’re in Chicago, I highly recommend seeing Laura and letting her transform your lashes!
