As you guys know, I’ve partnered with Lapiel Laser Center to help me achieve the Instagram filter skin that every girl dreams of. Well, dreams are turning into reality (nothing happens overnight, people) and I’m so excited to share the steps I took with you. Through a small series of procedures and injections, I’ve completely transformed my face to serious #skingoals. Over the past 8 weeks, I’ve worked with the amazing and talented team at Lapiel to talk through my skin concerns, expectations and formulate a plan to get my skin clear, hydrated and glowing.
The first part of this regimen was a series of 3 Silkpeel Treatments – I’ve completed 2 out of the 3. You can read more about my experience and results here.
The second part, and my personal favorite, is a little thing you may have heard of: Botox. Let’s get real for a minute. I’ve never understood why there is such a stigma around injections. I’m a firm believer that if you aren’t happy with something about yourself and are presented with a way to fix it, you should. In the era of female empowerment that is now, we shouldn’t be ashamed to admit we’ve “had work done.” If you look great and feel great, own it!
Don’t get me wrong, there is definitely a thing as too much in the plastic surgery world (hello, Cat Woman!) They’ve re-written the rule to “less is definitely LESS” so keeping it conservative can be somewhat tricky. The girls at Lapiel have made me feel comfortable, unjudged, and most importantly, made me feel confident in my before skin. They listened to my skin hangups and offered realistic and attainable ways to enhance and improve my natural skin.
My Skin Type:
I’ve always had extremely oily skin that was prone to breakouts. I remember my mom telling me that wrinkles would never be a worry of mine (side note: she’s almost 60 and has the skin of a 35 year old. She is goals.) Over the last few years I started noticing two lines on my forehead that seemed to get deeper by the day. I had one on each side of my forehead just above my temples. The more that I realized them, the more obsessed I became with getting rid of them. I used a prescription retinol, got chemical peels, stayed out of the sun + SPF’d a mofo, used a needle roller, all to no avail. They kept getting deeper and I was losing my mind! I took it so far to even stop wearing liquid makeup on my forehead and kept powder to a minimum because I hated how the makeup would settle into the lines. I kept thinking, “I’m 25, this shouldn’t be happening already!”
Cue Lapiel, my skin heros! I met with Catalina, the nurse practitioner, to talk about the procedure and what my goals were with Botox. You should always, always, always go to a certified injector!! I showed her the pesky lines on my forehead and she assured me the Botox would significantly reduce the appearance of them. She marked my forehead with a pen so the injections would be precise. We mainly focused on lifting the two lines that bothered me (so injecting above the lines) and also added a few units between my eyebrows- a common place where deep wrinkles form. 24 units in total. Lapiel charges $14/unit so this came out to a total of $336. You can check out their pricing here.
All in all, the actual injection takes less than 5 minutes. The pain, on a scale of 1 to 10, was maybeeeee a 3 and there was minimal bleeding. There is a small amount of redness immediately after, but nothing that would make you want to hideout for hours afterward.
Day 3: This was the first day that I felt the Botox was kicking in. When I lifted my eyebrows, I could see the muscles struggling to contract. I didn’t look or feel frozen, but I could definitely notice those muscles were becoming paralyzed.
1 Week: Lifting my eyebrows to make lines in my forehead was a lost cause. It looks like air was injected into my skin behind the wrinkles to push them out and make the whole surface of my forehead smooth and poreless.
2 Weeks: This is the point where the Botox is in full force and is the strongest. My forehead is smooth and tight and shiny. My eyebrows are still able to comfortably raise (I’m not frozen) but the skin and muscles don’t react. Another perk I’m noticing is ZERO breakouts on my forehead. Makeup is going on smooth and no one has mentioned the words “emotionless” or “frozen” to me. Winning.
6 Weeks (Now): Not much has changed in the last month. I still am feeling very smooth and tight. I have a little more movement in my muscles and can raise my eyebrows and frown a little bit more, but the lines are still not forming with these movements. I would probably consider re-upping in another 4-6 weeks, but the results are still very present and noticeable to me.
So that’s it, folks! Botox is a great and effective way to treat wrinkles and lines in the face and it’s easier and quicker than waxing your eyebrows. Hopefully this story taught you some facts about Botox, showed you real results and broke down any concerns or qualms you may have about injections. I mean, if that doesn’t convince you to try it…
